Froggy - the deviant

Froggy – pre-hair

As those of you who've read my earlier posts have surmised, I've stuck to the same basic form since the start. There's still lots of variety, I maintain, and I plan on continuing with that pattern until evolution takes over. There is, however, one deviant – it emerged in the early stages and began it's life as a caterpillar: let me explain.

I scoured the net for inspiration, I needed help getting started and help in learning simple things. So I was very happy to find a video clip that showed the viewer how to create a caterpillar by cutting out circles, stuffing them and then sewing them together. That seemed manageable, I thought.

As it was just a trial run, I cut out only two circles. Besides, I wasn't really interested in making a caterpillar – it was very cute but I didn't want to just replicate someone else's work but rather expand on it.  I didn't see where it would go after completing one caterpillar; a second caterpillar, I guess.

I did learn a lot though, including that there is something called a doll needle.Who knew? Not the salesperson at the local sewing shop – she was just as surprised as I was to discover that there is such an item.

With my newly acquired doll needle, I stuffed the two circles and sewed them together. Had some potential but what to do about the neck? So, I got hold of a discarded sock, one of my favorites, and transformed it into a very long scarf – or legs, depending on your perspective.

The next question was the eyes – rummaged in my button collection and came across the obvious choice: green, bulging. A frog emerged from the caterpillar larva – a miracle of nature. Then a bit of yarn for hair. Standing out from the crowd, it cannot be replicated :-)
