Ebbe's favorite short-sleeved shirt
By this time, most of my friends know that I am interested in collecting well-worn shirts and other items to perhaps re-materialize WickiDoodles. Not everything makes the transition – although what I don't use for the exterior tends to go into the interior. So, when one of my friends asked whether I was interested in her husband's old shirts I gladly said Yes!
Turned out that one shirt in particular was his favorite – understandably so: the perfect shirt for summer with shades of greens, blues and reds. Lots of colors to mix and match – and lots of bits. For the first WD (above) I used seams to create the hair and ragged shirt-sleeve cuffs for the legs.
Then I was rolling ...
That's the easy part ... how to treat the hair? what fabric to use for the nose? whether to use buttons? what about the legs? These are all very tough questions 😉
For the WD on the left (below) I ended up using some of the shirt collar for the legs and, again, seams for the hair but this time in a sporty crewcut. For the one on the right, there were three shirt buttons that my friend fished out of her button chest that fit nicely onto the salvaged button plate ...
... and on the back a single, lonely green button I had on hand to hold the waistband in place ...
In sum: I have made 2.5 WickiDoodles so far using Ebbe's favorite short-sleeved shirt – with material left for at least another 2.5! Amazing how one short-sleeved shirt can go such a long way.
